On the Road for the Chamber!

Minnesota, Arizona, Colorado & Wyoming

Published: Wednesday, November 20, 2013   /   Categories: Leadership

Over the next two months I will travel roughly 2200 miles for work. Now I know for some of you this is nothing, but for an event director, well the furthest I have ventured from work, so far, is York, NE. It will all start in two weeks when Jennie and I head off to Bloomington, MN for a ChamberMaster User Forum.

You may be wondering what is ChamberMaster? It is the database we use for our membership. It ties directly to our website so as we update members and events in ChamberMaster it automatically updates our website directory and events calendar. There are so many things we can do with this system so Jennie and I are going to learn the endless possibilities we have with this program. We may also sneak over to the Mall of America for a little site seeing!

When we return I’m home until after the New Year, then I jet off to Tucson, AZ for Chamber Institute. Institute for Organization Management is a development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Institute is comprised of four weeklong sessions. While at Institute I will take classes on finances, managing, leadership, communication, governance, and membership. In addition to these core courses I am able to select three elective courses. I have chosen technology trends, sponsorship solicitation, and learning to let go (I have a difficult time delegating). I’m very excited for this opportunity and very thankful the Chamber staff and Board feel I’m a good candidate for this program.

After returning from Institute I will jump in the car with the Water Tour planning committee and head to Wyoming and Colorado. Let’s hope for good weather! During this three day trip we will be mapping out the destinations for the 2014 Water Tour.  The tour is designed to educate the participants on water management, water resources projects and irrigated agriculture.

During this time I will also continue to plan for the Annual Meeting, which is scheduled for January 27th and our big BBQ Competition in March! Oh and I forgot, celebrating the Holidays! Hope to see you all at our Holiday Reception; December 12th at the Archway.
