Transitioning From a Full-time Student to a Full-time Employee

Published: Wednesday, June 18, 2014   /   Categories: Education

Here I am with over a month under my belt being the Communications Director at the Chamber. It does not seem real that only months ago I was sitting at a desk trying to listen and pay attention to all of the important information that my professors were teaching. I think about how different my life has changed transitioning from a full-time student to a full-time employee. Some major transitions include:

  • Having to get up early every morning - when scheduling classes, I would make sure that I would not have a class before 9:00 AM. Who wants to get up before 8:00 for class?? Now, I have my alarm set for 6:30 AM and am in bed before 10:30.
  • Looking presentable for work - no more sweatpants and looking like I just got up.
  • Paying Bills/Taxes - and what do I say about bills? Who wants to talk about paying bills anyway
  • Having my own place - one of the perks of graduating, moving into a great apartment and getting to decorate and organize it the way I want
  • Meeting new people, who are not college students! - Getting to work at the Chamber has helped me get out of my comfort zone being shy around people I do not know and now talking to Chamber members and getting to know who they are and what they do.
  • Working with amazing people - I could not ask for a better staff to work with, such an amazing group of ladies.

When deciding which life I like better, I would choose being a full-time employee at the Chamber. Even though I have to get up early every morning and look presentable for work, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
