Thankful by Sharon Almquist

I had the privilege of spending time with all of my family this weekend. We do not get to spend much time together as my son lives in South Africa. All three children, their spouses and my one and only beautiful granddaughter met in Kansas City. We had such a nice time of being together and everyone got along.

It reminds me how important it is to spend quality time with the ones that are important to you and it doesn’t have to be a big planned event.  Family is so precious and we just do not know how much time we have together. Our lives get so filled with busyness that we forget the important things, like spending time together and visiting.  With this week being Thanksgiving week, we should all be thankful.  I am sure everybody can think of something in which to be thankful.

I also was able to take a trip a few weeks ago.  We had no planned agenda, just started in Seattle, rented a car and drove down the coast to San Francisco. It was very relaxing as we did not worry about being somewhere at any certain time.  Our lives get so busy that we do not take time to just enjoy the scenery.  I firmly believe that a person should travel, spend time with family or whatever else they enjoy as you never know when you won’t be able to do this anymore.  The older I get, the more I realize how important the little things in life are.

Remember this holiday season, whether it is Thanksgiving, Christmas or any time of year, to spend some time being thankful and just enjoy the festivities.  You don’t always need a big agenda with every minute filled.  Spend some time just visiting or playing games or whatever you enjoy doing together.

Be thankful!
