New Year’s Resolutions!

Published: Thursday, January 5, 2017   /   Categories: Education, Membership

It’s that time of year again where we celebrate a New Year, and we see it as a chance to change and start anew. Let’s be honest here 2016 was a rough year, so rough if you Google search, “ 2016 worst year ever” you would get about 11.2 million related links. So what do we do when we start a new year? We start making a list of resolutions that we know this time we are going to stick with, or at least that’s what we tell ourselves every year.

For any change to your lifestyle that you are wanting to make this New Year one of the most important things you need for resolutions to stick is have support. Other ways to help keep this New Year’s resolution according to the American Psychological Association is to:

1. Start small

2. Change one behavior at a time

3. Talk about it /Write it down

4. Don’t beat yourself up…you’re only human

5. Ask for support

After looking into the top New Year’s resolutions that most people set, I wanted to help people succeed this year by providing them information on different businesses in the Kearney Area that can help support any one in their resolution this year and to make it stick!

Diet/Eat Healthier, Exercise More, & Lose Weight

So I am lumping anything to do with being healthier together since the three topics above account for a large chuck of the population’s New Year’s resolutions.

Some of the ways to do this is to:
-Join a Gym/Take a Fitness Class
-Talk with a Nutritionist/Doctor

If you want to join a gym or sign up for fitness classes, Kearney has you covered with a whole bunch of great options.

K-Town Shakedown
Kearney School of Gymnastics & Dance

If you want to make a change and do it in a way that is healthy and the best way for you and your body why not talk with the professionals? One of the best resources and forms of support is going to be through your doctor or a nutritionist. Lucky for you Kearney is the best place for your health with the amount of resources we have in the
area and they are top notch.

Another way to manage your money is to think about where you shop and eat. By buying local you are keeping your money in your community. Your support of local businesses help build this community, it helps strengthen your local economy in return helps to keep taxes lower, increases wealth of the residents, creates more jobs and opportunities in the area, and most importantly gives back to the community. Small businesses donate more than twice as much per sales dollar to local non-profits, events, and teams compared to big business (source).  Just some food for thought for when you think about how you spend your money. Every dollar counts! :)

Spend more time with Family & Friends

I personally think this has to be one of the best New Year’s resolutions out there. Spending more time with the people that matter in your life. The moments and memories created with your family and friends are really what make life worth living. The people who you surround yourself with are really what help frame who you are.  So go out there and create some fun memories with these people, I can guarantee if you make more time with them your 2017 will be an amazing year!

Whatever your New Year’s resolution may be or whether you keep it or not I hope you just take the time and enjoy life and learn a little more about yourself this year.
