Ft. Kearny protected thousands of pioneer wagon trains. An interpretive center, blacksmith -carpenter shop, powder magazine, and split log stockade tell the exciting story. Open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The 152 - acre recreation area features sand beaches, swimming, showers, and changing rooms, fishing, camping, picnicking and hiking along the Hike-Bike Trail. A Nebraska State Park permit is required.
