The Great Platte River Road Archway Monument represents the gateway to the west to the 12,000 plus people who will pass under the structure daily. The structure will house two levels of fascinating interactive exhibitory that traces the history of the Great Platte River Road From Oregon Trail
days to the fiber optic future world of tomorrow.

Ft. Kearny protected thousands of pioneer wagon trains. An interpretive center, blacksmith -carpenter shop, powder magazine, and split log stockade tell the exciting story. Open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The 152 - acre recreation area features sand beaches, swimming, showers, and changing rooms, fishing, camping, picnicking and hiking along the Hike-Bike Trail. A Nebraska State Park permit is required.

You'll find one of the Nebraska's leading attractions just 15 minutes south of Kearney. Live demonstrations and more than 50,000 historic items depicted. America's progress since 1830 at Pioneer Village. It is so efficiently arranged that you can see it all by walking less than a mile. Open everyday of the year 8 a.m. to sundown. Admission: $8 for adults, $3 for kids 6 - 12, kids 5 and under are free. Admission is good for a unlimited number of visitation days.

Trace the history of transportation through Buffalo County on a site where the Mormon Trail once passed. In addition to the Union Pacific steam engine and archives of the area, displays include an 1898 depot, 1898 church, 1880's Freighters Hotel, shown in the picture, and 1871 school house. Although temporarily closed, and in the process of relocating, the Museum will soon re-open at 2005 1st Ave. in the old Tollefsen-Elliott building.  When work is completed, the new Museum will provide 13,000 square feet for children and parents to experience the worlds of science, technology, culture, and the arts in a unique hands-on atmosphere.
