January Doing Business Award: Goodfellows

The Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce Colonels presented Kearney Goodfellows with the “Doing Business” Award at the January Colonels’ Meeting. Josh Jelden, Chair of the Colonels’ Committee presented the award to Ron Bielenberg and David Mattson, members of the Kearney Goodfellows. The Doing Business Award is presented to a new business, new member, or to businesses that make a significant improvement to the community.

Each year for over 50 years, the Kearney Goodfellows have gone into the community and solicited funds to buy Christmas gifts for children in need, wrap them, and then deliver them on Christmas morning. The Kearney Goodfellows drive was first started back in the 1940’s and has continued since that time. In 2018 the Goodfellows collected some $65,593 dollars that was used to purchase gifts for 1,200 children in the Buffalo County area. These gifts assisted some 450 families.

The Kearney Goodfellows is an all-volunteer board that meets quarterly. They also help with other needs in the community such as providing coats, hats, and mittens for approximately 500 needy children. The Kearney Goodfellows also assist the Kiwanis Club by purchasing backpacks at the beginning of the school year for students. If you would like to participate in the Kearney Goodfellows drive later this year, please contact president, Scott Anderson at 308-698-0118, or sanderson@eni-grp.com
