The Youth Friend of Kearney Award was created by the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce Envoys and is designed to honor a Kearney Youth who has been a Friend of Kearney through his or her community leadership and contributions. This award recognizes the potential of all area youth as valued members and leaders of the Kearney area.

Benjamin Soria has been selected as the 2020 Youth Friend of Kearney!

As a first year student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Ben has taken the past few years to create a legacy for himself at Kearney High School, and within his community. Not only is he heavily involved in many activities and organizations at Kearney High, but also within the community.

Ben served in various leadership positions at Kearney High, like President of the FBLA chapter, Parliamentarian of Student Council, and a leader on the Principal's Advisory Board. He also competed at the National FBLA Leadership Conference in business calculations and been featured in FBLA's "Who's Who."

In the community, Ben was part of the Chamber's Youth Leadership Kearney, has spent a number of hours volunteering with the World Theatre, Kearney YMCA, ARC of Buffalo County, along with helping to paint the "Let Kindness Ripple" mural on west 21st Street in Kearney.

Ben is constantly seeking opportunities that allow him to better his school and his community. He values scholarship, service, and leadership. Last year, Ben was recognized by Governor Pete Ricketts for receiving 36 on the ACT or a 1600 on the SAT.

We are ecstatic to award Benjamin Soria with the 2020 Youth Friend of Kearney award and wish him the best of luck at MIT!
