C&C - COMPASS

Compass hosted a lively Coffee & Company on Thursday, November 1, at the beginning of National Adoption Month, to celebrate their 100th adoption through foster care and highlight their upcoming Give Where You Live campaign.

Compass is committed to reaching out to children and families in Nebraska. They provide programs and services to meet the individual challenges that youth and families face. Compass has an expanding array of services to address the difficult issues facing Nebraska’s children and families.

Compass has a growing Foster Care Program and provide needed Family Services through Central and Western Nebraska. They also offer Community Assistance and Intensive Family Preservation to meet the needs of families. Compass has provided a safe, caring family home for 556 children in foster care through partnerships with 238 foster families. It has also provided 127 teenage youth with housing and independent living skills since 2007. In addition to foster care, Compass also works with families who are struggling or working to regain custody of their children. Since 2010, the family services team has provided support, healthy living skills and education to 544 families.

On October 31, Compass celebrated its 100th child adopted through foster care at the Buffalo County Courthouse. The agency has two families adopting a total of five children. One of those families was James and Megan Boland who adopted their children Dante and Mary. The children had been in care for 1083 days and lived with the Bolands for two years. The family said the first thing they were going to do after adopting was to go to the mall to get Mary’s ears pierced, something she had wanted for a long time.

Regarding the importance of Give Where You Live to Compass: December 6 is a 24-hour day of giving in the Kearney area. Donations on this day create more momentum than any other day of the year for Compass. Compass has a matching donor, and the Foundation matches percentages of donations as well, creating a big impact for children and families in Central Nebraska. When families are strong, communities flourish and businesses thrive.
