Employee Spotlight: Greta Zastrow, Cunningham's on the Lake

If you've stopped into Cunningham's on the Lake lately, Greta Zastrow may have taken care of your table. Originally from Lincoln, Greta came to Kearney to attend UNK, where she's part of the Honors Program on scholarship. In her words, Kearney "has really become a second home."

Ask Greta why someone should visit Cunningham's, and she'll point to the setting and the energy. With a patio right on the lake, it's a place to watch a game, grab dinner with friends or family, or stay late for drinks. She describes it as social, comfortable, and different from anywhere else in Kearney.

A self-described appetizer person, Greta's go-to order is a few things to share: the Journal Bites with Bistro Sauce and the Pork Belly Bites, always with a side of mac and cheese. "I might be biased, but I think we have the best mac and cheese in town!"

One of her favorite moments on the job came from a table of educators in town for a teacher conference. They asked about her studies and her plans after graduation, then wished her luck before they left. "I love that working here gives me the opportunity to meet people I otherwise never would have crossed paths with!"

That connection is what keeps her coming back. "I love working here because of the people! I genuinely look forward to coming in, seeing my coworkers, and getting to meet new people every shift."

When she's off the clock, you'll find Greta running on the local trails, playing pickleball at the parks, and ending the day with ice cream at the Golden Spoon.
