LOVE LOCAL WEEK

Love Local Week

The Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce and the Shop Kearney 1st Retail Committee began the first year of Love Local Week, a week dedicated to honoring local businesses. Daily events ran from May 21st to the 24th that encouraged community members to get involved and celebrate our local businesses.

MANDAY Monday

A day catered to men was kicked off at Thunderhead Brewery downtown on Monday. Thanks to Thunderhead, all who attended received one free pint of beer. The first 20 men also received a free swag bag full of goodies and one ticket to receive giveaways drawn later that night. There were 7 vendors in attendance that were present to interact with the guys. Several vendors even had games and samples to give away. It was a relaxed night for everyone to enjoy playing pool, drinking beer and networking with local businesses.

Participating Businesses: Sleuth Escape Rooms, Oxford Locker, Gary Michael's, Sports Village, Builders, Sayler Screenprinting, Kearney Powersports, Anytime Fitness, Elite Chiropractic, and Buckle.

Teen Tuesday

School got out on Tuesday, May 22nd and the Hilltop Mall had many deals for teens to take advantage of to celebrate their freedom. Whether teens wanted to catch a $5 movie or snag a free tote bag, the mall was offering deals in its stores for them to check out. They could also go outside the mall to throw water balloons and enjoy the beginning of summer break.

We KARE Wednesday

Wednesday was dedicated towards giving back to five great local non-profits in Kearney. Cunningham’s Journal was the host of a nightly fundraiser for the non-profits. The community was invited to come grab something to eat that evening and a portion of the proceeds would go to the following groups: McKenna’s Rae of Hope Foundation, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Nebraska, Alzheimer’s Association, Kearney Jubilee Center, and Nebraska Veteran’s First. Members of these groups were also present to mingle with guests and thank them for their contribution. It was a great turn out that gave the Kearney community a chance to show #KearneyKARES.

Retail Therapy Thursday

Girls night out—Thursday night was the perfect chance for ladies to get their retail therapy for the week. The night was filled with fun aspects, such as limo rides, delicious food and shopping. The ladies who attended had a great time being escorted to five local boutiques around Kearney and taking advantage of special deals.
