Nikki Erickson and her family have proudly called Kearney home since 2009. As a family of seven, the Ericksons have spent the past decade and a half building a life filled with laughter, love, and connection in this welcoming community. What first brought them to Kearney were better healthcare options, strong churches, and good work opportunities, but over time it became so much more. What began as a practical move quickly grew into something deeply meaningful. It became a place where their family could grow, build friendships, and create memories that would last a lifetime.
From the beginning, the Ericksons felt right at home in Kearney. They were drawn to the genuine kindness of the people and the pride that runs through the town. Over the years, they’ve found countless ways to enjoy everything Kearney has to offer. Whether they’re cheering at high school sporting events, attending a local theater production, or spending time together, the Ericksons love being part of the energy and spirit that make this community so special. When it comes to dining out, their go-to spots are Cunningham’s on the Lake and Margarita’s. Nikki also enjoys exploring local businesses, and one of her top recommendations is 308 Boutique, a hidden gem that reflects Kearney’s creativity and charm.
Some of Nikki’s favorite memories come from summer days filled with laughter, music, and the warmth of friends and family. She fondly remembers events like Freedom Fest, where the town comes alive, and evenings spent hosting backyard barbecues where everyone gathers to share stories and good food. Beyond those special gatherings, the Ericksons stay involved in the community through church and nonprofit volunteer work. Their faith plays a big role in their lives, and giving back brings them a deep sense of fulfillment and connection.
Nikki feels especially grateful for the neighborhood they live in, where people truly look out for one another. She often talks about how blessed they are to have two wonderful sets of next-door neighbors who have become like extended family. They help each other in so many ways, whether it’s lending a hand, sharing a meal, or simply checking in. To Nikki, those small gestures of care and connection are what make Kearney so unique. When asked to describe Kearney in one word, she chose the word NICE. While it may sound simple, she says it sums the town up perfectly. It is a nice-sized, clean, well-managed community filled with genuinely nice people. For Nikki and her family, Kearney isn’t just where they live, it’s where they belong.
