Meet the Neighbors

Brought to you by Bridges Senior Living Advisors, Custer Federal State Bank, and EZ Kitchens

For Courtney Burbach, Kearney isn’t just home. It’s where her story began and where she’s now raising a family of her own. Originally from Kearney, Courtney moved away for a few years to Omaha. It didn’t take long, though, before she and her husband TJ found their way back. When TJ accepted a position at Kearney Regional Medical Center, the couple returned, confident that this was the perfect place to build their life together.

Courtney and TJ met while attending the University of Nebraska at Kearney and always shared a vision of what life in Kearney could look like. Today, they’re living that dream alongside their young son Crew and their dog Bella. As a family, they love being outdoors, staying active, and enjoying everything the Kearney community has to offer.

“What made us stay in Kearney is the strong sense of community, the opportunities for our family to grow, and the belonging that Kearney offers,” Courtney shared. “It has everything we need. It’s a place to be involved, make lasting memories, and feel at home.”

When they’re not working or volunteering, the Burbachs are out enjoying the town. Thunderhead is Courtney’s favorite local spot for a meal, and their family loves spending time at Kearney’s incredible parks. “We take Crew on walks and enjoy playtime outdoors,” she said. “Some of my favorite memories growing up were with my neighbors and friends. I’m so excited that Crew gets to experience that same kind of childhood.”

Today, Courtney is actively involved in the Kearney community in more ways than one. She serves as the Development Director at the Kearney Family YMCA, and TJ works as a Respiratory Therapist at Kearney Regional. Courtney also participates in the Kearney Young Professionals Network, mentors through the Teammates program, and serves as a Membership Experience Advisor for her college sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi. Their family also enjoys spending time at the Kearney Area Children's Museum, the YMCA, and the SportsPlex.

One of the things Courtney loves most about her daily life is her neighborhood. “It’s truly fun and special because of the close group of friends we’ve built right here on our block,” she shared. “Driveway hangouts, kids playing together, and neighborhood cookouts are a regular thing. It’s always a blast.”

When asked to describe Kearney in just one word, Courtney chose Connected. “In Kearney, people genuinely look out for each other. Whether it’s through schools, local businesses, community events, or just everyday interactions, that sense of connection is everywhere.”

For Courtney, one of the greatest parts of raising a family in Kearney is the strong sense of community and the overall feeling of safety. She also appreciates how Kearney continues to grow and evolve, offering more for families and individuals each year.

From childhood memories to building a life for the next generation, the Burbachs' story reflects what makes Kearney such a meaningful place to call home.
